October Newsletter:

Happy Fall!!  I am hoping for some cooler weather soon!!  Fall is a time of harvest and harvest means “to gather, reap, or pick.”  For CLHS the Fall is a time to gather and reap the work we do each and every day.   October is a time when students put their heads to the grindstone and create, design, discuss, process and write about the work.  Students are our gatherers and they definitely reap what they put in.  I encourage you as parents to foster your students to question, talk, and write about the work they do each day.  It makes great table talks at dinner.

CLHS has many activities scheduled for October; one of which is the PSAT on October 16th.  All Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will take the PSAT; the PSAT for juniors is the year that counts toward the National Merit Scholarship Program.  We will be on a testing schedule that morning.  Seniors will be taking the ASVAB. Test.   Also a reminder that October 14th is a student holiday.

The week of October 21-25 is Red Ribbon Week sponsored by our Student Council.
Dress Up Days are as follows:
Monday – Red Day – celebrate Red Ribbon Week
Tuesday – Twin Day – Team up against drugs
Wednesday – Disney Character Day – dress as your favorite Disney character
Thursday – Cowboy Day – give drugs the boot
Friday – Pink Out Day (CLHS Cheerleaders are selling the new Pink Out shirt) to support breast cancer

Also, I want to encourage all of you to join CLHS PTSA. The PTSA contributes to many aspects of our campus including teacher grants that go directly back into the classroom and impact students’ learning. The membership dues are $7.00 and you can join online by going to www.joinpta.org and selecting Canyon Lake High School. Our next PTSA meeting is Monday, October 7th at 5:30pm in the library.

Finally, I encourage you all to get connected with your student’s  grades.  The end of the 9 weeks is October 18th.  TXConnect is a great tool to see what your students are doing in the classroom each day.

One last thing…. I want to congratulate CLHS and our teachers and students for receiving 5 out of 7 academic distinctions this past year from TEA as well as having a Report Card of an 88 (B); we were also recognized by CISD as one of two top high schools in the district.  This illustrates all the hard work that teachers and students are doing every day.  Our goal is to truly be a Campus of Excellence with 7 distinctions and a Report Card of 90 (A).

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns and please follow me on Twitter @kristycastillej.  I post pictures daily to show all the happenings around campus.  I also do a weekly Facebook Live on Mondays.

Go Hawks!
