Classroom Rules and Procedures
Canyon Lake High School
Pre-Calculus (Room B104)
Welcome back to school. I am excited to have you in my class this year and I’m excited about the learning that we will both be engaged in this year. Our ultimate goal this year is to have fun and learn as much as we can. To aid us in getting to those goals we need to have a few rules in place.
Each day there will be a warm-up (Problem of the Day) question on the board as you walk into class. You are expected to begin working on this question when you get into class. You will be required to turn in these questions. These questions will be graded every other Friday as a homework grade. You will also be required to bring a spiral notebook (100 pages), a three ring binder, and 1 box of tissue.
Absent work: You, the student, are responsible for picking up you absent work. I will have a folder that has your assignment with your name on it ready for you the day after you miss.
My classroom rules: Supplies:
Follow the social contract in room 1 spiral notebook (70 pages)
1 Three ring binder
1 box of tissues

Course Description: A firm foundation in algebra is necessary for success in college algebra. This course is an extension of Algebra 2 and is designed for college bound students who will be majoring in math, science, or a related field. Students will prepare for success in Calculus. Concepts covered will include but are not limited to equations, matrices, functions, polynomial functions, quadratic functions, rational functions, exponential functions, logarithmic functions, sequences and trigonometric functions.
Course Material: Please come to class prepared. Bring a notebook, pen or pencil, and your calculator if you own one.
Grading Policy:
Homework: 20% Quizzes 20% Tests 60%
Homework will be given several times a week and will be picked up for a grade. You will have Tuesdays and Thursdays to work on the homework. Expect at least one quiz per three weeks and at least one test per 6-week period.
Make Up Work: All Homework is due prior to taking the test for that unit. Any assignment not made up will result in a zero-INCLUDING TESTS!! Tests cover a full unit of material and will be cumulative in nature. Make-up tests for students who are absent on test days will be more difficult than the one your class took since students have additional time to prepare. If you are absent from class, please arrange to get another student’s notes and do the required assignment. I will not provide notes for students. If the absence is “school-excused”, your work is due by the due date. A school-excused absence does not buy you extra time.
Academic Dishonesty: It is expected and assumed that all materials you turn in will be your work alone. Academic dishonesty includes copying homework, giving or receiving help on a test, and plagiarizing. If you are caught doing any of these, you will fail that particular assignment or test. Cheating is not acceptable!!!
Food and Drink: No one should go hungry or thirsty. You may have food and drink as long as it does not become a distraction and you do not leave a mess. I reserve the right to change this policy if you leave messes for me or the custodian to clean up. Pick up after yourselves and act like adults and there should be no problem.
Cell Phones: Cell phones will be turned in before tests. The presence of ANY communication device in your pocket, in your hand, in your lap, etc., during any quiz or test will be interpreted as academic dishonesty and will result in a zero grade for the assessment and a discipline referral. During times when you are not testing, please keep phone use to appropriate times only. I reserve the right to take your phone if you use it at an inappropriate time; this includes when I am teaching. Also, please ask permission to charge you phone.

Please know that while this class is a semester in length. The material will be presented as rapidly as would be expected in a college course. I look forward to teaching you college algebra and Pre-calculus!
